When it comes to mental health, I have only been honest around here. If you have been reading me for a while you may then know that I tried to commit suicide several times in my life. If I talk about it so freely online, it’s only because I wish I would have found others talking about it when I was younger and when I was feeling alone. Well, as it is Suicide Prevention Month, I thought it was only normal to dedicate a blog post to it.
I didn’t want to trigger anyone with this blog post so instead of recommending books which dealt with suicide (I can never read those books, so that’s why I avoided it) I decided to recommend five books which will hopefully make you feel less alone and maybe bring you hope.

I remember having to face my first panic attack when I was 11 years old. I have been diagnosed with depression at 14. A lot of other names have been added to all of this, but the whole point is that I have been suffering from a mental illness pretty much my all life. Obviously it helped me being who I am today, even though it does not define me.
I think it’s important to emphasise the fact that none of what I have been through really says anything about myself. I just learned through the years to get something out of it, to see the brightside of it all. So here is what I learned from having a mental illness.

If you know me then you know that mental health is something very close to my heart and that I try to bring awareness towards it every day. If you don’t know, I have a thing for quotes. Always had. As I have a great memory I tend to memorise as many as I can and it keeps me going. I even wrote down some on post-its and put them on my mirror to never forget some words. It always makes me happy to reread my favourite quotes and also makes me realise how powerful words are. If you don’t know, I spent the month of June at the hospital to fight my eating disorder which was getting out of hand. While I was there, they talked to me about my anxiety, about my cyclothymic disorder but also about my OCD. I was very surprised to hear the last word as no one ever told me I was suffering from it as well. As soon as I could, I started to research as much as I could about it and it all made sense. That’s why today I wanted to talk about the importance of getting the right diagnosis.
