Three musicals to listen to this winter 🎧🌨

Dear reader,

You may now know that I am a huge musicals lover and that I have been ever since I was a child. People have asked me to write recommendations and I thought I could do it according to seasons to start. That’s why I recommended you three musicals to listen to this autumn a few months ago. Well, now I am back with another blog post in this series!

Without further ado, here are three musicals to listen to this winter.

 Anastasia

“Dancing bears, painted wings, things I almost
remember, and a song someone sings once upon a December.”

I mean, someone knew this one was coming, right? I first listened to it in autumn two years ago I think and fell in love with it. I always loved the animated movie and there was something majestic about this musical adaptation. I fell in love with the cast, any new added songs and so on. I wish I would have seen it on stage.

Obviously it’s my favourite musical to listen to in winter, mostly because of the song “Once Upon a December” but also for the entire ambience of it. I would highly recommend it!

What it’s about: “Inspired by the beloved films, ANASTASIA transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.” via the official website

My favourite song: In a Crowd of Thousands (but my favourite one from the animated movie is Learned to Do It)

Three emojis to describe it: 👑❄️🌃

 Frozen

“The snow glows white on the mountain tonight, not a footprint to be seen.
A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I’m the queen.”

Would I have been really serious if I hadn’t recommend Frozen in this blog post? I started listening to it a year ago I believe and I have been loving it ever since. Once again I already loved the animated movie and I think this adaptation is amazing. I always loved listening to Disney Broadway shows, and this one is one of those I truly love. (ps: still so happy they casted a black actor to play Kristoff!)

Again, it’s perfect for winter for, well, obvious reasons. It’s called Frozen after all, right?

What it’s about: “It tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on a journey alongside a rugged iceman, his loyal reindeer, and a naive snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped their kingdom in eternal winter.” via Wikipedia

My favourite song: I can’t choose between Love is an Open Door and For the First Time in Forever!

Three emojis to describe it: ❄️👑👭

 Hadestown

“The weather ain’t the way it was before, ain’t no spring or fall at all anymore.
It’s either blazing hot or freezing cold, any way the wind blows.”

It’s probably the least wintery one, but I wanted to include somewhere and didn’t know exactly where. I first thought it was perfect for autumn but since Eurydice can’t remember fall, I didn’t think it was the best. I ended up picking up winter because going to hell isn’t really summery… Right?

I started listening to it at the beggining of this year and truly got obsessed with it this summer. I fell in love with Reeve and the entire cast actually. It’s my favourite musical of 2019 with Beetlejuice (which I should have recommended for autumn).

What it’s about: HADESTOWN  intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, HADESTOWN  is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.” via the official website

My favourite song: If It’s True!!!!!! (note the excitment)

Three emojis to describe it: 🎼🌹⛏

And that’s all!

I hope that you all loved this new blog post. I can’t wait to write some recommendations for spring now!

Do you listen to musicals? Do you love those? Which one would you recommend me?

Love always,

Clara

  1. AHHHH HADESTOWN!!! I think that’s the perfect musical to listen to during winter while you’re desperately hoping for spring to come again 😄 It’s kinda been my musical obsession of the year. And Frozen and Anastasia are both absolutely perfect as well!! I’m dying to see Anastasia live – I hear it’s spectacular 😍
