Dear reader,
I’m so excited because August started, which means that the N.E.W.T.s readathon officially started as well! I’m posting this post quite late, but here it is: here is my TBR for this month long readathon!
❥ WHAT IS THE MAGICAL READATHON?
The Magical Readathon was created by Book Roast in 2018. This readathon is inspired by the Harry Potter world and happens both in April and in August. You first have the O.W.L.s readathon, and then the N.E.W.T.s readathon. If you want to know more about it, make sure to watch Book Roast video (linked before) in which she explains it all. It’s an amazing idea and I sincerely want everyone to join so we can all have fun.
❥ MY TBR
If you followed my O.W.L.s journey, then you already know that I decided to become a portioneer. To do so I had to pass 5 different exams, which I all passed, and I also read 4 extra books to be able to get an Outstanding. Now it’s all a bit different for the N.E.W.T.s. To pass those I have to get an Outstanding in Potions (and therefor to read 3 different books), an Exceeds Expectations in Herbology (meaning reading 2 books), and an Acceptable in Arithmancy and in Care of Magical Creatures (reading 1 book for each). Here is what I’ll be reading!
- Potions
A – Polyjuice potion: Read a friend’s favourite book
For this one I am going with The Diviners by Libba Bray, which I have been meaning to read for ever now. It happens to be one of Lucie‘s favourite books, who also happens to be one of my favourite person on Earth, which makes it even more exciting because Lucie and I have a lot in common when it comes to reading tastes and every book she recommended me turned out to be an ultimate favourite of mine. I’m convinced this one won’t make any exception.
E – House ingredient: A book with a cover in your Hogwarts house colour
My house is Slytherin, so I have to read a green book for this prompt. I decided to go with Neverseen by Shannon Messenger, the fourth book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. I read the third book in July to be able to jump into this one for the readathon, and I’m very excited because I absolutely adore this series!
O – A book that starts with a Prologue
It was awfully hard to find one, but The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw, which has been on my TBR for a year, ends up having on so it’s all good. It’s quite a short book so it should be great to read for this readathon, as I do have quite a lot of books to read.
- Herbology
A – Mandrake! Quick, put your headphones on! Listen to an audiobook (if not – green cover)
I’m so happy to be able to listen to Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Read for this prompt. I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo a few months ago and absolutely adored it, so I really can’t wait to pick up this one. I’m sure I’ll adore it, and apparently the audiobook is amazing!
E – Read a book between 350 – 390 pages
This prompt was one of the hardest to find a book for, but finally Wildcard by Marie Lu does fit it. I read Warcross more than a year ago during a 24 hours readathon and really loved it, so I can’t wait to finally read the sequel and see what it’s all about. It should be easy to go through as well!
- Arithmancy
A – A book that ends on an even page number
Do you know how hard it was to find a book for this one? I really thought I wouldn’t find one, but thankfully More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera fits the prompt. I bought this one exactly a year ago, so it’s time for me to finally read it as it’s the only Adam Silvera’s book I haven’t read yet.
- Care of Magical Creatures
A – Follow the spiders! Why couldn’t it be follow the butterflies! A book title that starts with the letter A, for Aragog!
I only had Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody to fit the prompt and it’s quite a big book, but it’s okay because I’ve been meaning to read it for ages and I’m sure I’ll love it. I don’t know much about it but the book tuber emmmabooks adored it and we do have similar book tastes (she also loved The Diviners) so I should be good!
❥ MY EXTRA READS
Obviously, I’m very competitive and want to get an Outstanding if I can in each subjects. Therefor here is what I intend on reading if I have the time to reach my goal.
- Herbology
O – Read a book with a flower on the cover
I’m so excited to finally by reading We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia. I don’t know much about it except that it has characters belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community, but I know I’ll adore it!
- Arithmancy
E – Read a standalone
I had tons of choices for this specific prompt, but I decided to go with Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson because it has intrigued me for quite a while now. I hope it’ll be as good as I heard, but I have no doubt of that!
O – A book that’s longer than 350 pages
I’m really glad that There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon is longer than 350 pages because I need to read it. I read Sandhya’s book every year during summer, so it makes sense that I would read this one now! I’ve been saving it for the readathon and I’m dying to read it.
- Care of Magical Creatures
E – A book under 300 pages
I’m going with something easy here because I only intend on reading several Spider-Man comics. At least I’m sure to get through them!
O – Grab onto Fawke’s tail! Read a book with a bird on the cover
Finally I’ll be reading Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman because I got it at YALC and I honestly can’t wait to dive into it already!
And that’s it!
Are you participating? Have you read any of those?
Love always,
Clara
I’m participating too! I’ve decided to become a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor! I’ve read two books so far, and now I’ve had to pause it for the MythTakeReadathon. Good luck!!

i did!!! i really liked it as well! the audiobook was really confusing and overwhelming at first because of all the different voices and povs, but i loved how complicated the story was + the 70s setting was amazing!

It sure was difficult to get into because you have to get used to all the voices and stuff BUT I ADORED IT SO MUCH AND I WANT TO RE-READ IT ALREADY. I’m so glad you loved it too!!

First of all, the most important part: SLYTHERIN TEAM ♥ I loved your OWLs posts, and I loved the idea of this readathon so much that I sat my OWLs in July (I didn’t see myself doing the NEWTs without them, I needed to complete the whole thing) for the ministry worker (department of international magical cooperation) career and it’s so much fun! ♥ I might do some extra reads, but I’ll see since work is a lot this month haha I hope you have a lot of fun this month Clara, and achieve the grades you want!

I still can’t believe how many years I was in denial I was a Slytherin. Truly, it’s the one house that just feels right for me, if that makes sense! ♥ It’s an amazing readathon, and I hope your NEWTs are going well (I’m cutting it really close, and I’m worried I might not finish in time oups?)
