Five books to read during summer | part 1, contemporary novels 🌊

Dear reader,

I missed the opportunity to present a little reading summer guide last year, so here it is. In this series I will present you five books from three different genres which I believe are great for summer (contemporary, fantasy and classics).

So here is the first part of this series: let me present you five contemporary reads for the summer!

❥ The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

I know I keep recommending this series but I can’t express enough how important it is to me. I read a book per year every summer when I was a child and growing up with those four girls taught me a lot. I even re-read the series a few years ago when I was older then and I realized how amazing they truly are. They talk about such important subjects such as grief, sexuality and more. They all take place during summer so it’s definitely perfect for the season and if you love stories about friendship and growing up, then those are the right books to binge read!

❥ When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

I read this book last spring and it made me feel so good. Everyone talked about it and ever since two more books written by the same author came out, but I believe this one is the perfect read for summer. It takes place at a summer program and is all about romance and more. If you want to pick up something cute and light, definitely do for this one!

❥ The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie

I read a proof copy of this book and fell head over heels in love with it. Again, it does take place during summer so it all made sense to read it this season. It talks about friendship, finding your place and your people and books. I wish I would have had this book when I was 14 because it also deals with bullying and it would have helped me a lot. If you are looking for something sweet and innocent, please check this one.

❥ Going Off Script by Jen Wilde

Do I keep recommending the same books? Unfortunately, yes. But it’s all good because Going Off Script sure is amazing and everyone should read it! In this book you follow Bex during her summer internship at Hollywood and it’s really all you need to know. It has a super cute f/f romance, it is super diverse and I believe anyone would love to read it because it’s funny and still important.

❥ I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

I don’t know why I feel that this book would be perfect for summer, but here we are. I think that if you want to read something cute and quick, you should definitely give this one a try, especially if you were in love with One Direction like me or if you are now into k-pop music. It’s super funny but it also deals with important subjects such as anxiety and more.
