October wrap-up, favourites and other 🍂

Dear reader,

A few weeks ago I told you I was taking a short break to focus on my exams and to relax a bit. This break ended up lasting quite a few more weeks. I would have blogged but as I don’t have a computer anymore (I am saving money to buy myself a new one) I can’t blog from home and have to wait for my lunch breaks at work, which means that I’m not always in the mood for it. Anyhow, this time I pushed myself to sit down and to write my October wrap-up as I did many things this month and need to sort it all out.

So without further ado, let’s jump right into what my October was made of! 🍂

WHAT I READ

During October I had to keep fighting to reading slump, so I only read 8 books. It’s not that bad, of course, but I used to read at least 10 books per month so I can’t wait to get back to that.

Here is what I read this month:

  • Vengeful by V.E. Schwab, unrated
  • City of Ghosts by V.E. Schwab, 4.5/5 stars

  • The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy, 4/5 stars
  • Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, 5/5 stars (reread)

  • If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio, 4/5 stars
  • Macbeth by William Shakespeare, 5/5 stars (reread)

  • Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, 5/5 stars
  • Le Horla by Guy de Maupassant, 4/5 stars

WHAT I LOVED

I have been watching Paige for quite a while now but decided to rewatch all of her videos during my exams period. I ended up not doing anything else as I was only studying and watching her study pushed me to do more. She is actually the reason why I started enjoying studying again and have been doing so much this month. I am not a huge fan of study videos on YouTube but hers are amazing as she is showing us the truth of her life at the university of Cambridge. I would highly recommend you to check her channel!

  • Autumn at Disneyland

At the beggining of the month I went back to Disneyland with my friend Morgane and it was decorated for Halloween, which was amazing. It put us in such a good mood and we had an amazing time. We also decided to wait for the parade this time and were front row for it, which made the whole thing even more amazing. Prince Naveen even winked at us! 🎃

  • London and The Hate U Give

This month I was lucky enough to be invited by the amazing people at Walker YA Books to fly to London to the Fox office to attend an early screening of The Hate U Give. I really loved it and am actually currently writing a whole blog post about it, but what made me even happier was to be invited to such an amazing event. I felt so lucky to be there and still can’t believe it happened. 🖤

  • Going to a pumpkin patch 🎃

As soon as I came back from London I asked my sister to drive me to a pumpkin patch and even though we stayed for only 10 minutes I was so happy to go again, as I couldn’t go last year. It reminded me why I love October and autumn so much. I can’t wait for October 2019 now!

  • Le Festival New Romance

This month my amazing friend Morgane, who also happens to be a writer, invited me to le Festival New Romance in Paris, which is basically a book fair organised by a French publishing house. I stayed by my friend’s side all along, watched her being loved by so many people and even saw some people from bookstagram there. I also watched Morgane won the award of the best French romance of 2018, which ended up in both of us crying and then drinking and dancing a lot. It was amazing.

  • Going out again

In October I finally went back to my favourite pub in Paris with my friends, which was decorated for Halloween in honour of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (which I adore so much). We had so much fun and it made me feel so good to finally go out again, to enjoy some time with my best friends and to remind myself that I am loved after all.

  • Paris Comic Con

For the first time ever I went to the Paris Comic Con this year and it was AMAZING. I was the happiest nerd in the world and fangirled way too much any time I saw a Spider-Man walking by. I can’t wait to go back next year, and this time I’ll cosplay one of my favourite character.

  • Bohemian Rhapsody French Premiere

As I said I did a lot of things in October, and so I was lucky enough to go to the French premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody. I have been a huge fan of Queen for years now and was in love with Freddie when I was 12-13 years old. My father used to play their albums all the time in our car when I was a child and I loved singing along with him, imagining myself being in a musical screaming the lyrics of any Queen’s songs. I was so happy to see the movie and fell in love with it. I just can’t wait to see it again.

  • Halloween 👻

This year I couldn’t celebrate Halloween with my friends, so I stayed home, baked some peanut butter cookies and ate chocolates while rewatching the second season of my favourite tv show, Stranger Things, with my sister and brother. It still was amazing and I still love this day to death.

  • Staying at home

And finally, doing so many things reminded me that I also need to take a break from time to time and to relax, which I did during the last few days of October. It felt so good to stay home, to study and then to do nothing. I really understood the importance of self care now.

CHECKING ON MY OCTOBER GOALS

At the end of September I set myself some goals and I am glad to see that I almost completed them all: I enjoyed every moments even though it was super busy, got back to reading and took many new bookstagram pictures. However I couldn’t blog and still don’t know if I had great grades to my exams. It still was all good!

WHAT I WANT TO DO IN NOVEMBER

Here are my new goals for November:

  • Read 10 books,
  • Keep studying and enjoying it,
  • Take new pictures,
  • Take some time for myself,
  • Get back to blogging,
  • Save money.

And here we go! October was such a busy month but I’m so glad I had the opportunity to live it all. I also turned 23 this month but as I lost my grand mother only 4 months ago I didn’t feel like celebrating.

What did you do in October? What did you read? Tell me all!

Ps: More than five people added my blog post about My tips for coping with a bad day as one of their favourite blog posts of October, and it couldn’t make me happier. Thank you all so much for your constant love!

Love always,

Clara

  1. Reading 8 books is already so great, Clara! And you’ve been quite busy this month, that’s fantastic. It’s amazing that your friend is a writer and you got to see and stay by her in that fun French event, it must have been a lot of fun 🙂
I can’t wait to read your post about The Hate U Give, I’m really curious – it’s incredible that you got this chance 🙂
I wish you a beautiful November! xxxx
